The Sowing Growth
Board of Directors

On April 2, 2018 Articles of Incorporation were filed for the nonprofit organization Sowing Growth to assume operation of the Eastern Ingham Farmers Market, formerly operated under the name Williamston Farmers Market by the City of Williamston.

Sowing Growth’s Bylaws were adopted on May 8, 2018. These Bylaws provide for a governance structure including a Board of Directors with four Corporate Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer). The Board of Directors is responsible for strategic, policy, and fiscal planning for Sowing Growth and the Eastern Ingham Farmers Market program that it operates. To assist the Sowing Growth Board in these endeavors Sowing Growth has hired a Market Manager to address the day to day operation of the Market and to advise the Board as to how it may best support the Market as a thriving contributor to the quality of life in the communities it serves.

Meet Our Market Manager for the Eastern Ingham Farmers Market

Before moving to Haslett in 2017, Tom Cary had over a decade of combined experience as a farmer, vendor and market manager on the west side of Michigan. He was a founding member and then managed the South East Area Farmers Market for five years, and co-led the Fulton Street Market as it transitioned from a vendor-operated to a nonprofit-operated market.

As co-owner/farmer at Groundswell Community Farm in Zeeland, Tom was a vendor for seven years at the Fulton Street Market, four years at the Holland Farmers Market, and two years at the Grand Haven Market. Besides serving as Market Manager of the Eastern Ingham Farmers Market, he is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the Capital Area Food Council in Lansing.

Most recently, Tom completed his coursework for the Market Manager Certificate, which was issued to him by the Michigan Farmers Market Association on February 15, 2020.
